It's always an interesting ride in Calgary! All the yuccas and palms look happy. No protection yet. Lots of frost, but many warm highs too. The worst we've done in my part of town is about -5.5. I'll start getting my protection rigged up pretty soon for the looming inevitability. But we'll sure take this for now.
Duncan,
our weather patterns are similar despite my being rather closer to the Gulf of Mexico (but not close enough!).
Today we started at -3 oC but got to 20 oC. It is our shared pattern of dry air and lack of clouds. --Erik
Crazy. Has the northern jetstream dipped way south? I know you guys can get some downright chilly weather when that happens. Although, if it has we're almost always 10x worse! Wait a week or two, and our weather will have nothing in common ! Thanks for the message. Take care!
Duncan,
I stand corrected
Right now I have a strong south wind and can practically smell the Gulf of Mexico
(it smells like oil. But so does Oklahoma. And Alberta )
It now looks like a mere -4 oC by weeks ends, which is not much worse than I've had already.
Anyway, about time to make a batch of ice tea and head back to the garden

These tend to be, what I cynically call, suicide prevention forecasts . I think they're more of a public mental health service than science. I figure the only scientific part is the 50/50 probability that a chinook will occur after an arctic blast. The only thing the forecasters get right for Calgary is the arctic stuff!
