Clearance Finds at Lowe's

Post by MarcWeaver »

I just returned from what seems like my weekly trip to Lowe's (I'm remodeling) and I couldn't resist on adding these to my collection. They were each $6.75. The 2 trachys look different, even though the tags on both say trachycarpus fortunei. Maybe someone can tell if the second one is mislabeled because they look quite different to me. They also have a sylvester palm there for $68 that's pretty big - around 3 feet tall with a foot of trunk or so. That will be $20 within two weeks.

Nice find. The palm on the far left looks like a needle palm. Looks like a trachy in the middle.

Thanks coltrane, after looking it up on the net, it appears that you are right. What a mis-label. I'm not putting these in the ground, they're going to stay inside over the winter in front of my sunniest windows and I'll pray for the best. I really think it's too late to plant them, especially the butia, but maybe I'm wrong. What do you think? 10 day forecast is below, which is average for this time of year here.

Nice!
This is definitely the time to buy cheap palms. As with you, I keep 'em inside overwinter and plant them in spring. --Erik

Marc, I was just in your same situation, and I went ahead and planted mine, but thats just me. Your in a little colder zone than I am so Im not sure what you should do. The general concensus from people on here was to plant it. Your call.
