They are looking great! Especially the yucca. That thing is huge! Are you guys having a hot and humid summer in your area too?

It is 100oF now at 2 pm, with a dew point of 79oF, so I think the answer to that is, YES!
Pool is getting too hot to be helpful, despite the sunshade over it. Can you still enjoy your pool up there? --Erik

Yes it has been a hot, humid summer here too. It's 93f in the shade in my yard right now with dewpoint in the 70s. It's been a great summer overall (can't complain about heat when you live here in MN). We have had lots of rain which has been timed perfectly. Have not watered the lawn once all summer! We have not had to heat the pool all summer. When I checked today the water temp was 76f. About perfect in my opinion. Been going through quite a bit of chlorine though...
And yep, the cats love being by the pool and palms! I actually find them curled up under the palms all the time.

I planted that thompsoniana around April 1st this year. It came bare-root and I just put it in (well draining, excellent soil mix). I did treat it well with root hormone when planting and have not watered it since planting. The thing really is a trooper. It is about 5' tall now. I'm extremely pleased with the purchase. It really should not need heat during the winter, but a cover for sure. I think I'll just expand the trachy enclosure to cover it as long as it is in the same planter. It will get a little heat that way, should only make it happier in the long run. Come fall when it is time to dig up pups, I'm going to have bananas coming out of my ears!

the pool is 93oF in the shade. So, not much relief there. AC on full has the house down to 88oF, though.
Enjoy what you have. The Yucca are great, and the Hersperaloe is super. My hummingbird practically lives off mine. She is there at dawn each day. I know as I am up at dawn each day, too. --Erik

To hot here to even look at the palms,etc for very long-

looks like a big cool-down coming 7-12 days out,looks like a nice break from the heat,
just hope we don't pay for it with strong storms!

Thanks guys. I found some more pictures of the trachy planter which were when the sun was shining on it. I think they look much better. I posted them in that other forum (the above link goes there). I apologize for my laziness in not posting all the pics here too! It's just been one of those summers as far as time goes...

I really hope the winter goes like this summer has gone. I miss all those winters in the 1990s when we didn't even get a frost until nearly Christmas! And we were riding motorcycles and enjoying 50s and 60s (F) in February... One year I was still picking tomatoes in late November, no B.S.

Pool is 93 in the shade?!?!? Wow, no wonder that's no relief. That is just nasty down there! I think my A/C is still struggling to keep the house at 76f today though. I don't think the compressor has turned off once all day. 77f was last night's low here. 88f indoors? I suppose the humidity being taken out is some consolation though.
