Mid Summer Update

I think they have grown a few inches this year!

Still no flowers on the crepes, but they have grow like crazy!

Needle has started to sucker this year.

Castor is about 6 feet tall.

This little trachy had no fronds to start the year. Now it's working on # 5.

The banana was 10inches when I planted it in May. It's about 5 feet now.

Bamboo about 8 feet now.

This is the washingtonia I overwintered in the palm hut. Seems to be loving it's new spot. Put out 5 fronds in July! It loved all the hot humid weather.

The first Magnolia I overwintered, just flowered for the first time.

WOW SCOTT!!!!
That is awesome man, talk about a transformation from last year to this year! Your stuff is growing really nicely too, this year has been great for that. Your big trachy is definitely in kick ass mode, the only bad thing is making a different sized palm hut every year. There are worse things right

That trachy that came back from the dead is also very impressive, it looks very happy and will easily store enough carbs to make it happy next year.

Nice flower on the mag, I really love smelling them when I walk around the yard. The tree came back really good too.

So what are the plans with the white oleander? I like the white color!

Lot's of growth!

Bill and I were talking about this the other day,we want out palms to grow fast/well/big but
then you start thinking about how the hell we are going to protect them!

Thanks for the comments Bill. I think I am going to try and over winter the Oleander just like the way you did it! I thought you might laugh. I always take crappy photos compared to so of the people on the boards!

I don't mind building a bigger hut each year, it's worth it eh?!? I still with I had half the stuff you had in your yard!!

Thanks Jim!! It's true but it's worth it when they look so huge and healthy in the summer. We just need to build a retractable roof over our years!!

Your garden is looking really fine my friend. Those plants look perfect. Not a sign that they ever tasted winter.

I think about protection and palms getting larger as well. Probably only applies to my Butia <knock on wood>. I was thinking to continue building the shelter in increments or add ons. In other words, when the palm gets taller, build another section to the exact measurements of the existing structure, but only 2 feet or so. Then lay it on top and fasten it. Just keep doing that as long as you have a ladder that can reach the top or lay against the side of a house.

Wow, those trachys look magnificent! I hope one day my trachys are as big as yours. I like how the castor bean goes with the rest of the garden and love the blooming magnolia. Make sure you protect the washy good this winter. Make the enclosure large, as I think frost killed off a lot of my washys roots this past year. Their roots are not nearly as hardy as a trachys roots.

Will be cool to see your protection this winter, but I don't want to think about protection yet!!

Thanks WX.. Not sure what to do with the washy? I didn't think it was going to look that good this summer but it's loving it's new spot. I really don't want to have to protect anything with heat on that back garden, so we'll see! Thanks for the comment!

What a change from the spring video!

Can't believe the growth on those palms...are you sure they'll fit into the hut this year? (don't think so!!!!)

Glad the Washy is happier there, good view of it from the house that way.

Thanks Barb.. I watched the vid from the spring and what a difference! We've had such a hot summer though.. Yeah the palm hut is not going to fit for sure. Still wondering what to do. I'll probably just build a bigger one expanding on the old one. May have to totally re think the process for the following.
