Cycas diannanensis

Cycas diannanensis
These are the "Mountain Form", grows in elevations between 1200 and 1800 m (3900 and 5900 ft.) in the Hong He valley in southern Yunnan Province, China.

Just bought two, both are "Rattlers", (endosperm is dessicated inside the seed), Considering the storage & shipping times once the fruit was removed, I somewhat expected this.
Going to soak for a couple days, if that doesn't help, will drill a couple holes into the seed.
Will post the results.

Your drilling "rattler" seeds will be more successful than my "delidding" attempt.

There aren't many internet images on C.diannanensis, so it'll be good to watch yours grow.

Good luck getting them to pop.

Barb,

Couldn't find my drill bit, used a file instead :D

A small hole in the "safe" part of the seed.
(towards the back of the seed, on the top half)

Soaked them overnight after that, one is opening now, hopefully a radicle will emerge in a couple days!

Congrats Steve

Your photos will be among the first of this on Google Images.
Can't wait to see its growth habit.
