Another 'Sick Trachy' Update + New Banana!

I just wanted to post one more update on my Trachy f. It's definitely not sick, as per my last post, it's been shooting some nice new spears and they're all in perfect shape! We've finally had some nice hot hot weather for a week while I was away. When I came back I was happy to see it's pushed out a few more new spears, nice and green, not one is crinkled or discolored!
On that note, my banana I was wondering about still hasn't grown in height. Bill suggested I should be more concerned about that one than the Trachy so I've been keeping an eye on it. Being gone for 10 days and not seeing any growth is definitely not normal....so I put it in a different spot to do it's recovery for whatever reason, and bought a brand new banana that has 3 pups, SO... I just have to share these photos! You can see I transplanted the small one behind it next to the fence. I'm now wondering if it's not growing because it's still attached to the mother (that is dead) and if I should separate them?

The little banana sprout is attached to the mother which is now a stump (you can see it if you look really closely, it's ground level). It never came back this year but this little pup did....but it's growth has been very very slow to say the least. Just wondering if maybe I should separate it from the mother it's attached to. That's all that's dead.

Your trachy looks beautiful! I knew you would get it through ok. Before winter I'll share some nice product info with you and everyone so you shouldn't have that problem again.

I wonder if your soil doesn't drain? That could be your problem with your basjoo. Did your roots look nice and milky white when you dug it up? You might want to dig a test hole about the size you plant your nanas in and fill it with water and see what happens, if it pools up that's your problem. No need to worry if that's the case just dig down a little deeper put in some stones then sand and plant like you always would. Basjoo roots stay toward the top of the soil.

Nice new nana! That really bugs me when the new leaf snaps, it wont happen once it roots in for some reason.

Thanks Bill! With the little banana I dug 2 ft down in that hole, through clay, until I hit rocky sandy soil. I then added the stones and then mushroom manure and planted it. We haven't had any hot sun until 2 weeks ago, just rain and cool temps so I wonder if it just got a slow start. Now the new banana is in it's spot and hopefully will continue to look as good as it does.

UGH the leaf snapped when I put it in my car to take home! I wasn't impressed, neither was my 5 yr. old...lol...she's really into these nanners too!

I'm glad the Trachy is doing well too. I'm looking forward to some of your advice for wintering. I hope hubby can get around to building shelter for it. I've already put in my request!

Your welcome Heidi, glad I could help. If your going to protect your trachy this winter it will be a breeze for you guys, just a cover to keep the rain out will do the trick just fine. You don't even have to cover the sides.
