Heating Cables

Post by Jay-Admin » Sat Oct 23, 2004 11:38 am

Where would someone buy heating cables from? Would a garden nursery have them or is it something you would have to order online? Is there a specific brand to get? Any info would be appreciated.

Regards,
Jay

Heating cables

Post by Wes North Van » Sat Oct 23, 2004 5:27 pm

Jay,
I work for an electrical wholesaler and we sell them. I am checking into what type would work best. I am not sure what to get yet so I am going to talk to one of my suppliers and get him to figure it out for me. When I hear back from him I will let you know.

Cheers,

Wes

Cheap Heating Cables

Post by Estiva » Fri Jan 07, 2005 9:33 am

Hi everyone:

In the plumbing section of most hardware or home centers (at least in areas that have hard freezes, like Wisconsin) you will find heating cables for pipes (prevents pipes from freezing). I bought a six foot cable for about $16. Most of these cables have an internal thermostat that turns on automatically at about 35F.

There are also larger sizes available. When I am fortunate enough to have a trunking palm, I'm planning to wrap the trunk with the heating cable, then cover with bubble wrap.

I havn't figured out how to protect the crown. Any ideas?

I have often wanted to try a plumbing heating cable. Has anyone out there tried this? It sounds like a very good idea Estiva has! I really like the idea of the bubble wrap over the cable :D

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
