I thought there was something wrong with this one at first, started the year with stunted, sickly looking leaves.
(it's the one in the back, you can compare the crown to the one in front)
Thinking there was a problem, flushed the container out, replaced some of the mix, etc., etc.
After a while, new growth started to show from several growing points
Posting photos to show it's progress,
Steve

That's awesome!
That bad boy will look really cool next summer when it has 3-4 crowns, congrats.
Did it flower last year? It was always my impression that they branched after flowering-

Thanks! Hasn't flowered yet, that would be nice to see!
Read somewhere that in habitat these can start branching at about 4' tall, mine is in a 20 gallon laundry tub, so maybe, (besides flowering & damage), adequate root mass is also a trigger?

You were right about mine; came back gangbusters after I cleaned the old soil off roots and repotted it.
Growth continues in the house.
Hoping mine will grow as tall as yours before it branches out.

Hi Barb,
They speed up quite a bit once they get over a foot tall. Going to try and keep mine growing over the winter, (every time they overwintered in the house all the leaves dropped), Have plenty of room now. Wonder how large these can grow?

I saw some in Palm Desert that were approaching 10' almost all were branched.
Mine over the years always grew more in summer if I gave them their normal dormancy period.
They also grew weaker stalks if I let them grow inside.
Your's may fair better in a greenhouse.
All the Pachys I have seen branch after flowering, your's may have hit that point right as the growth shut down coming indoors.
I had a nice little P.Densiflorum/Rosulatum but rotted this fall

You may be right on the timing! (or maybe bad timing on my part , a couple more weeks outside may have been all it would have taken)
All the P. lamerei here came from WalMart
![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
, started some Pachypodium geayi from seed in 2005, those are just starting to pick up some size.

Those are nice too!
I had one of each about 15 years ago, they were both about 5' tall
It's really amazing how much they can grow in a summer with enough heat and water!

Apparently the GH suits them well enough to keep growing
Same with the Baobab tree on the right (
Adansonia digitata)

That'll be nice indeed.
3 branches? 4? hard to see.
And maybe it's flower AFTER branching (opposite to what it should do)
I've heard the flowers resemble Plumeria.
The P.geayi seem to have sturdier trunks at a younger age.
How much longer do you think you can keep that baobab tree inside your GH, young man?
There'll be a curve in your roof one morning.

Jim, The last couple years I've been getting at least 1' of new growth per season, these are fast growers with full sun, heat, and plenty of water. That was with them going dormant over the winter, not sure what to expect now
Barb, Two dominant growing points, and a third which is shaded and not doing much. The Baobab will do as the Banyan and Brugmansia are, as soon as it hits the roof, it will start spreading out along it.
(I'll have to get you a photo of the others, they are trying to take over the GH

Barb
Most of the Pachys I have seen all sprout three shoots.
I was really getting back into these again(used to grow them 1980-90 had 300 different plants, not all Pachys)when I discovered cold hardy palms, bananas etc.
Then I kinda dropped them and ran to the palms etc

Heck, Jim, you could'a had them in addition to palms!
Just a little thing about the family moving into 1 room, so the plants can occupy the other 5 .
300! Adventurous!

I like Pachypodiums. Something about being exotic, beautiful and painful, all at the same time. I kept a Pachy for a friend while he moved across country. It bloomed before he could get back and pick it up. Here are a couple of pics.

Jim, that's a lot of gorgeous plants you've spread around.
Bet the Blue Ribbon win at the BG made the newspaper...hope you have a copy.
Jim...Jimmy, I won't call you SNAKE
wow, look at those Pachy flowers.
They really DO look like plumeria.
Any fragrance?
