Hello from Amherst, OH!
Hi! I'm William, I am completely new to palm trees. They have always fascinated me since I saw them in South Carolina when I was younger. Now I want some! I've done some thorough research and found that I should be able to plant Needle Palms as well as Chinese Windmill Palms. However since I am completely new to palms, I want some good information that will help me along the way. I am near lake erie, and according to a few maps, this plants me in Zone 6a, considering I have never seen temps below zero stick around for more than a few hours, nor does it really even get that cold here. Any info would be great. The front of my house faces south, BTW.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Welcome William!
You have come to the right place. There's lots of great people on this site that would be glad to help you. A south facing wall helps a ton in getting these guys through the winter. Sabal minor should work for you as well, along with others if you want to get fancy with protection methods.
