Musa Basjoo too

Post by Kansas » Mon Mar 06, 2006 2:44 pm

I can get a 3' tall Musa Basjoo for $50. Should I get it and go ahead and plant it? Zone 5, but temps now are high 30's at night to mid 60 days.

Sounds a little pricey to me but i would definitely wait to plant any bananas until after your last frost date.

Regards,
Jay

I think what I will do is wait until late April and go back and see if they have them still. If so, I will then buy one and plant it. Kinda like letting them babysit for it :P

A 3 ft basjoo banana for $50? You are getting TAKEN TO THE CLEANERS. You should pay NO MORE than $12-15 for a Basjoo that size. I urge you not to do it. WHere do you live? In a few weeks I can probably send you a pup as a trade or something.

Well don't buy that one and when mine are all leafed back out and most danger of frost here is past (about March 15th or so) we'll see what we can do for you. I have stands of Basjoo in my yard. I hate to see anyone get ripped off. I could buy you a $12 one here and send it to you for cost and shipping and you'd be better off than getting the $50 one, but I know I will have some extras...when I sell them I sell them for $10 locally.

This hobby is TOO COOL. I came from the boxing biz where we had people that would cheat me out of tapes and DVD every chance they had.
This hobby has got to be the greatest group of folks.
Lemme know Paz when you can ship and I will look forward to it. I owe DZ $15, & I'll put you down for a 10 spot.

I agree with everyone here. I would wait till you typically have your last frost. Also, if you can find a smaller Basjoo for less money it would be your best value. These guys grow very fast!

I just recently put on order 10 starts. I paid 10.00/ea. As already said, with how quik these grow, it seems unecesarry to spend that much extra money for a few weeks of growth.

Heres the place where I ordered mine from.

Dr,

Tell me about it. I've been talking about my basjoo with my friends now for a couple of years. However, when they do come over they always ask how your banana plant doing? And I'm always gald to show them. Even in the winter when it's all covered up. Wait to they find out that I'm planting a hardy palm this year

DrKungPao, what part of Owhyee county do you live? I once lived there in Marsing :)

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

NO! NO! NO!

Don't pay $50 for a 3' Musa Basjoo--you'd be getting hosed. Why pay that much when you can pay $6.50 for a 10" that will be that tall by July at the least? Try:

or e-bay

Good luck!
