Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

They can reach a large size, I have seen one that was about 15-20 feet tall in Arizona
I have two of them in my yard, but I protect them with plexiglass cases or what ever I can find that will work  They have a lot better chance of making it through a winter if they are larger. I think a big one could maybe take 0 deg. by its self? it might depend on sp. also, mine are ferocatus cylindraceus (acanthodes), but I here that fero-wislizenii is more cold hardy

Well the big guy did not make it through the winter  I don't think I covered him soon enough. It has been a rough winter on my plants, I think becuase of the mild fall and then very cold air that later followed. I will miss you big Fero Cactus

In memory of the big guy

My Ferocactus died 4 years ago and survived 13 winters until the last we had temps around -36C And staying alive in that for 5 hours and in the morning it was squashed and brown. My prickly pears survived half dead. My agave was bad too.I want to get another Ferocactus but I dont want it to die again in a another -36C

That is so cool Donny, that you had one for 13 years 8)

I have a smaller one that is still alive, but I covered it sooner :)

It was a big tough one. But its limited to cold. In the 1970s and 1960s We zones 6b and 7a It was so warm in those years but its getting colder and we got droped in a 6a and 5b. Cactus would do 100x better in those decades

I like how they survive winters that long but all cactus have to stop in some kind of severe cold. Its very strong cactus and can survive in -40C for 2 hours.
