King Sago

Post by Kansas Tropic Man » Sat Jul 12, 2008 6:44 am

My Sago palms seeds have finally germinated. I acquired some seeds last winter and after 6 months they have finally germinated and are starting to grow. I had no idea they would take this long to germinate however I am finding out some tropical plant species take considerable time in germination of their seeds.

Cycad seeds are subject to a holding period to allow the embryo to fully develop. Cycas revoluta seeds from last year would be ready to plant in May/June.

With seeds ready to go, it usually takes 1 - 2 months for germination, then another month for the first frond.

This article has a lot of good info! http://www.plantapalm.com/Vce/horticulture/seeds.htm
