Windmill Palms

Post by Kansas Tropic Man » Fri Jul 11, 2008 2:58 pm

I live in Wichita. Ks and can attest to the palms cold hardiness. I foolishly planted 2 small palms in Feb 08 when the ground was froze. When spring came they were completely defoliated however have since put on new growth. The coldest temp during this time was 11 degrees.
I have since become more educated and have added Pindo, Mexican, Chinese, and 5 other windmills to the collection. My tallest windmill is 6 ' and I am going to give them protection this year. My backyard is a tropical paradise with 4 different banana varieties along with bird of paradise, ginger, hibiscus, yucca, umbrella tree, and many other species. I have over 100 different varieties of plants growing in my garden space. I will dig up most of the plants to winter in my green house over the winter.
I hope to show pictures soon. I love the site and will be a frequent visitor.
