Hello!! I just got home from my kids spring break vacation. This year we went to Texas. It was interesting and I had fun. Here are a few pics of some things I brought home.( The door opening is about 6'5" )

This is my Butia in a 30 pot and fronds over 9' tall. The fronds go up instead of curving down

This is a wierd Mediteranean palm Its in a 30 gallon. The fronds are small and dont seem to open all t he way maybe deformed? I bought it anyway. Its in a 30 gallon pot. Many small trunks. Anyone have any Idea whats wrong with it???

Are you keeping some as houseplants or are you keeping them all outside?

Med. Fan Palms are extremely variable. Its actually rare to find any that look exactly the same.

Well everything is going outside during the summer. The bismarkia and king and queen sago will be brought indoors during the winter. I have a heated basement with 8' ceilings and I am in the process of cleaning it out and all summer I will be adding grow lights down there so I can keep some palms down there. I am having the back porch replaced this year so I wont have the money for the green house on the roof until next year

Kent I stopped in Dallas, then Houston, then Galveston. I have been buying palms on the kids spring break every year now for about 3 years.

Allen it took ALOT of homedepot and lowes hopping. Also when I get to the hotel rooms I grab the yellowpages and start calling nurseries also

Every city I stop in I take a yellow pages home with me. That way before spring break I call all the local nurseries and see who has what. I have yellow pages from mobile alabama, key west, miami, orange county , san diego, fort meyers, tampa, orlando, and the ist goes on and on. I found that over half of the nurserys with good stuff that I go to are owned by older people and most do not have internet access.

Mike WOW!!!! I can see why palm hunting on your vacation is near priority one. Those lights are a must for those palms in the winter especially that Bismark. I`m still looking to buy some Yucca rostrata and need to know what you paid for the one pictured at your house and where you got it from.

BTW did you do a head count to make sure you didn't leave ANYBODY behind?
MY kind of road trip!

I'd pour Turpentine on one or two of my plants just to go on a road trip like that!
