Heat Mat

Post by lucky1 » Sat Mar 29, 2008 1:39 pm

Finally found one, albeit with the peat pellets and GH lid, etc.
$29 at WalMart.

Since I've got those peat pellets, anybody recommend that I start Cycad deboaensis seeds in them (vs. perlite in baggies)?
(when they arrive... :? )

Plugged the mat in last night, sure doesn't get very warm but with the clear plastic dome on top, would it work?
Found some old-style (non LED) xmas lites, so I can use those instead.
Cycads, I think, needs lots of heat? 95*F ?

Barb,
Save the peat pellets for something else :D

I would recommend an airtight box with a Perlite medium, also a glass aquarium thermometer inside. You can then place this on top of the heat mat. Be sure and run this for a day or two before adding the seeds to make sure the temperatures are within range !

(Rinse the Perlite, fill the box up about 75% and place the seeds about half way into the Perlite with the sprouting end up)
