My Grand Niece

Post by Alchris »

After a lot of self questioning, I called Children's Services and reported what my grand niece had done. See Cold Hardy Palms section, topic-- Late winter check on cold building plants.

Unfortunately after spending almost an hour on the phone with them, I was told 3 yr old girls do things like that frequently. What she is doing is not evidence of sexual abuse. There is nothing that they will do. They closed the file that they just opened when I first called( or didn't even open a file).

Craig I am going to send you a PM.

Chris and I always planned to keep in contact with the kids.

10 days to go before my niece is out.

Allen

Allen,
You did the correct thing, and you've done what you could in the entire situation.
You've also protected yourself and Chris from ramifications in the future.

10 days.

Who speaks for Brooke?

Not Children's services.

Not her mother.

Not her father. My niece is a 'maury mother'. The first 2 candidates didn't test out.

Not her grandparents. They are worn out after years of my niece.

Chris and I will soldier on. Our asses should be covered, but we are not going to quit this easily.

BRAVO!!! You are a good man Allen.

Do you and Chris plan on sitting down with Brooke to "teach" her about safe and unsafe touching? Letting her know that it's OK to tell you if it ever happens might just bring the truth out. There is alot of good information on the web about talking to kids regarding sexual abuse.

All you can do is just what you did. YOU PROTECTED YOU!!!
As far as the little girl's future, now, I would say go full force into doing whatever you can to help HER AND ONLY HER. She is too young to know right from wrong on choices, and the mom sure is not going to do anything, so now, after you have protected yourself with CPS, your free to help anyway you can.
I just want you to know I and all of us are thinking of you and will be behind you whatever yu choose to do. God Bless!

Allen,
Will a family support agency be following her (i.e. new address).
There must (previously) have been a support worker assigned to her case.
Child welfare agency...someone other than you and Chris, to make sure the kids are not neglected.

You deserve some peace.

So far no one will be following up on her. Her file was closed about 8 months ago once she got out of Peace River jail and had finished her probation. The file cannot be reopened as she now lives in Edmonton. Edmonton office has so far refused to open a file. Situation normal here in Edmonton--drastic shortage of social workers, drastic shortage of Foster parents and badly overcrowded group homes.

One last try with Child services next week. I found out that the children's uncle is not such a good candidate for a foster father and I doubt that any thing will be done as the children's mother is marginally better than a foster group home.
