I've had this plant for a good few years now. It was cut to the ground in the perma freeze of Dec'10 and was knocked back in the 2011/12 Winter also. But after that it has grown and grown. In warmer gardens they can become a pest. For sure this plant needs its own space

Anyone else growing this monster?
BTW all you see is from one plant

Hi Andy. This is a the Monster indeed! I guess Tim and Jim have haven some experience growing this plant. I would try but it is not imported to Kazakhstan. It's a pity...

They are fun to grow...no problem with it getting to big here.
I think they are said to be root hardy to z7 but the one I planted
5 years ago(long gone)still produces the odd pup now and then,
I think one came up behind the Washy this year and there are a
few others around but this may be the last time as the winters
have slowly taken a toll on these root systems...

I tried to overwinter one inside(as I have done before)to get some
size to it but it died over winter-I will try another.

Igor.... nice to hear from you, I hope you are well. I had a rare flowering last year as normally rain and cold kills the flowers

Jim..... I look forward to seeing Tetrapanax in your superb garden.

Pretty small....they are still in the fuzzy leaf
faze,I did see the tiny clump behind the Washy this
morning,I should pot some up so they have time
to grow in their pots before winter.

Yes Jim... they are nothing to write home about, absolutely no colour to them... must be the most unexciting flowers ever.

Ahhh but here in Iowa a weed...I mean plant like this
is a rarity, like the massive leaved Castor plants-
I have had people(of all the plants)pass by everything
to ask what the plant(Castor)with the big green leaves is...
probably next would be banana plants if they get big but
most will tell you, they know what that "palm" is
