Soft Brown Scale on Palms

Post by lucky1 » Thu Sep 09, 2010 1:19 pm

I have a few small scale infestations here and there on palms.
Easy to remove them by scraping a fingernail along the spine.
But they're back again!

Just found out that ants "farm" these too (much like aphids).
If we get rid of ants, the beneficial insects might keep scale in check while palms summer outdoors.

Wildlife is probably the wrong category...do we need a bugs/disease topic?

Neem oil does a nice job of suffocating them!

Barb,
I've found diluted coffee water does the trick on them pretty good. It's good for the soil too

That a good call Bill !

I forgot about that and I just posted it on Subtropical board yesterday-argh!

You can also make a spray out of coffee(make sure it's strained or it will clog the sprayer)
and spray directly on the plant! :D
