That's one weird looking bug Steve! It looks prehistoric. Check this blue eyed spider from the St Augustine area in Fla.

Here's one of the local Hornets, (or Wasp, or whatever they are)

They are fairly non aggressive, the only thing they seem interested in is finding water.
(They will swarm on any water source during the summer... like me when I'm watering my plants :lol:
