Hello From Denmark

Post by Benny, Northern Denmark » Tue Aug 27, 2013 9:45 pm

Hello,

I'm new to this forum, but not new to plants. I have grown cold hardy cactus for more than 35 years, and Yucca for more than 25 years. And during the last 10 year I have made a lot of different new hardy Yucca hybrids. Besides Cold hardy cactus and Yuccas, we grow a few Agaves and Bamboo. The palms outside is long gone, but we have a few Trachycarpus fortunei in large pots, just in case that global warming ever gets to Northern Denmark. In a coastal climate as northern Denmark, global warming is delayed, while the oceans will need to warmed up first, to have any effect here.

As a member here I will probably mostly join the topics about Yucca. And I look forward to read about your gardens.

Kind regards

Benny M. Jensen

Hey, Benny! WOW! Welcome, welcome, welcome! You know before I joined the PN I have being enjoying reading the bennyskaktus and 've got sick about yucca plants. Tim and Aaron made my interest to these plants stronger and stronger. But you were Mr. YuccaMan the First for a long time!

Igor, I meant to ask... how are the Yuccas you brought from here? I'd love to see pics. The cholla you gave me from Texas is doing great!

Thanks for asking, Adam! Everything is growing fine except of the Joshua tree. It doesn't grow and looks like it starts declining. I have to take pics of my yucca plants for sure... And I will

Tim!

Thank you very much for your warm welcome. I will of course post some photos of some of my many Yuccas.

Igor!

Thank you very much for your kind words and warm welcome.

I have a question for you Igor. Do you have any contacts in Tashkent, Uzbekistan? It would be really interesting to know, what happened with all the hybrids made by F.N. Rusanov. And if anyone of the hybrids is still in cultivation. I few years ago I wrote to the botanical institute in Tashkent, but I did never receive an answer.

Best wishes

Benny

I have some contacts but those people are the poultry veterinarians - we sell the vaccines to Tashkent.

I know the nursery guy from my town who used to collect cuttings and seeds in the botanical garden in Tashkent . And of course I asked him about the Rusanov's collection. My buddy has heard about the collection but he was not sure if something left as the COLLECTION. Since you asking I'm gonna try to find right people in Uzbekistan who might know. Unfortunately the Old School people either have died or have immigrated to Russia, to Israel or to Canada. So let's see.

Welcome to the forum Benny. I'm glad to see you here. Your website page is very informative and educative. It helped me a lot in my first hand polination of Yucca's.

Best regards,

Mario
