Avatar and image difficulties

Post by seedscanada » Fri Mar 09, 2012 7:49 am

I dont know how to post an image on here that will appear regular size. Now, i post to postimage and leave on here the link, then after, i remove the URL before and after, but the pic appears pretty small here. Is there a better way? I know Tim has great picture sizes of his Yuccas on here just as an example.

Also, Avatar pic. I am under the 120x120 pixels and at less than 28kb, and yet, avatar does not appear. Must it be a jpeg, GIF, I dont know?

First of all, Adam, who's your photo image hosting company?
Flickr? Photobucket? (Jay has image hosting on Palms North now too).

When photos are hosted, after loading them to the host from your hard drive, the host usually provides you with prompts such as "grab the HTML/BBC code" to post to embed into a website: without using the URL button above.
But the HTML/BBC code changes with whatever size I select to be embedded here in the website, several sizes from small medium and large.
Everytime I try to copy my code (right now)...it just wants to post the photo, not the text!!!! LOL

There's also a Thumbnail option (for use as Avatar) on your Profile.
In which case you would "View all Sizes", and select Thumbnail, and right click on the image.
In my case, on Flickr, I right click and select COPY IMAGE LOCATION.

Then I drop that (Ctrl V) into the box beside the phrase "Link to off-site Avatar:"
then Click the SUBMIT button.
Avatar should pop up in a second or two.
(If you have a previous avatar, you have to delete the old one first, then place next text, and submit)

I only know Flickr's photo hosting stuff (and they've had some changes where things went sideways for a while).
Maybe Jay's PN photo hosting is better, I don't know.
I had 5,000 pics on Flickr so wasn't going to switch.

I'd try loading an Avatar first ('coz then you will have found the View All Sizes options from which you selected Thumbnail).
Then try different size pics (grabbing the right code for the size) into posts once the avatar is up 'n running.

But if your host isn't Flickr, sorry, I don't know how other scripts are managed.

Yeah, well, Adam if you're not with Flickr, then my instructions will probably just screw you up.

We used to have a Sticky post somewhere about this.
We even had a post that was just for people to practice with their photos...aaargh, where is it?

Who is your photo host?

OK, so on your Flickr Photostream page, click on photo you want to post.

Then click on (above the pic) SHARE, then make sure Grab the HTML/BBCode is highlighted.
Then you see all the html below that.
Below the photo it says: various sizes or something like that.
Click on medium 640 (that medium selection usually stays there after you've selected it for various photos)
Place your cursor over all that html text above the pic, Ctrl + C

and then on your PN post, Ctrl + V
Don't use our IMG or URL buttons for the past into the forum.

Press Preview at the bottom of your post to have a look and the photo should be there in medium size.

Some of the text that we write after a photo gets underlined in strange colours.
One day I'll figure out how to fix that, but who cares?

Good luck, Adam.

Barb

PS--then use that same Flickr size selection (thumbnail size) for the Profile info for Avatar. Then press Submit.
