That is an awesome find, not everyday one gets to see a Gila-monster. Some people that have been there their whole life have never seen one in the wild. I have seen 2, one dead(on the road) and one alive. And the chuckwalla is awesome!
And the moss is mistletoe. A parasite plant. They are mostly found in warm country, but are found even here in Idaho. Bees love the flowers from the plant (or is it birds love the berries from the plant).

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

You can find one even here, but far smaller version.

Loved the tour, Jim.
Seems the desert has taken more of a beating than normal with long droughts and cold winters.

Prettiest bougainvillea I've ever seen.
And the palms on those streets are stunning.
The fat trunked one (filifera? Aaron, note that I'm learning  ) is a stunner.
Nice to see a big healthy brahea armata too.

What is that tall dead thing in the Stop Sign photo?
Can't believe someone would just let stuff die for lack of a bucket of water now and then.

Thanks!
Barb

Not sure barb but it does have very small leaves on it like a Euphorbia....and is very much alive,
I thought it was a Ocotillo the first time I saw it.

Yippeee, I got the Filifera right! (finally, huh, Aaron?) My "cheat sheet" helped.
Besides, the fat trunk looks like me after a winter of doing nothing...

Glad that tall thingy isn't dead.

What I'd give to live on one of those streets...
Oh well.

It is surreal....every day is perfect.
Lows in the upper 50s and highs around 80F(upper 80s by next weekend).

The fragrance in the air too, right now it is all the citrus trees blooming
and up in the desert the smell is just as sweet with all in flower there-pretty amazing.

You are so lucky Jim! I agree...surreal. 8)

I so hope I can make it down there for the monsoons. Well at least where it stays a bit cooler in summer.

The mistletoe does get big there, some of those trees I feel so bad for.
