Thank you! That was my suspicion but since I've never grown yucca I wasn't sure.

I did try to do this for ones that weren't too bad. They seem to take hold better. I will do it to the others.

Could I technically cut the long root (white part) and place that in the soil? Because some of them are very long. Would it continue to grow?

I have not had good success cutting the roots. I would bury the entire root.

So I believe there is 30 some odd total sprouts some (apx. 20) are definitely more solid and healthy and there is even 1 Rostrata that finally joined the party. No agaves yet. The canopy has been off for days; likely wont put it back on. Haven't had a chance to get a fan yet. The first seedlings are 2-4" already; need to start thinking about what to put them in now... Some of the long ones are starting to get multiple leaves forming.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Reducing unnecessary humidity by removing the cover and adding light worked, Mike.
IMO the plastic covers always create more problems than they solve.

Some are ready to be potted in their own pots. 20 some odd Y. Brevifolia, 1 Rostrata, and 7 or so Y. Brevifolia var. Jaegeriana. Notice the var. Jaegeriana on the right. They are much more broad and stout-leafed. Could be because they are in fact different varieties or the seeds are sourced from different areas and have different growth habits. Or I got hosed and it's some other type of yucca all together. The var. Jaegeriana seeds were similar to the Brevifolia but different in that they were smaller and slightly more wrinkled. The Brevifolia were larger and flat with few wrinkles. Either way, they are very different already. Seed seller assured me they are the cold hardy Jaegeriana though. We'll see I guess.

Anyone else grow both varieties from seed?

Hi Mike

can you take a couple close up photos of the wide leaf seedlings? This will help with ID.

Hi, good job on the seeds, I hope you get more than 1 rostrata seedling, it can be tricky to germinate.......I see that you have the single 24" HO T5( I too have one), good for starting seeds. you may want to get yourself a dual 48" T5 or T8's while waiting for some constant warm weather outside or put them in a big sunny window......also lower the fluo as close to the leaves as possible (without touching it) it will prevent too much elongation of the leaves. here's some pics of my baby rostratas from last year <img border="0" alt=""src="http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m92/ ... jpg"></img> <img border="0" alt=""src="http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m92/ ... jpg"></img>

Good luck & thanks for sharing!

I was going to suggest that too.
Made a big difference with my seedlings.

Thanks Barb. Its great learning how to do all of this and see everyone else's projects too.

I have some Agave Utahensis var. Nevadaensis and Ferrocactus Wislizeni in the dirt now.

Lots of different seeds coming that will soon be in the dirt. Hopefully sprouting and not just sitting in the dirt. :D
