Growing yuccas indoors

Post by Edmar » Thu Nov 20, 2014 5:32 pm

Hi everyone!
Summer is over & gardening outdoors as well but while waiting for next season I'm keeping myself busy with my indoor gardening. the following are pics of my yuccas started indoors some have never seen real sunlight, I use powerful grow lights mainly fluorescents of many types: t8's, HO t5's, big cfls and just recently begun using leds (2 months+) which left me amazed & IMO are the future of indoor growing.....

Many yuccas here, some are overwintering and barely more than 1 year old but the majority are 3 months old and less, the yuccas I'm growing are : yucca Elata X Filamentosa, yucca Karlsruhensis X Elata, Karlsruhensis X Glauca and yucca Recurvifolia X Arkansana

Here you can see at the front center a really nice Yucca Elata X Filamentosa hybrid which has already 15 leaves, I'm very happy with its growth indoors

Image

Front left is yucca glauca that was born indoors on january 2014, the leaves are very stiff

in the bigger pots are yucca baccata, yucca rostrata and a mazari palm which spent the summer outdoors but were born indoors and are already 1 year old +

More pics to come in the future!

Hello Jim,

Yes, in fact some of my yuccas have already spent their first summer outdoors but the majority that are 3 months and less will only be outdoors next season maybe as early as April depending on the weather.......what I have learned from past experience is that growing seedlings indoors really maximises their growth providing you have a good setup of lights (16-18 hours of light), good ventilation and some small dosages of organic fertilizer......so far it has worked great for me and this way I don't have to wait until summer to start my seedlings :D

Thanks!!
Edwin

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
