Additions to the Yuccarium

Post by andym » Tue Feb 04, 2014 2:26 pm

Recently bought a known Yucca, a new Yucca?? and an unknown Yucca
Finally bought myself a Yucca Filifera which we all know is tender and is the most tender of all my yucca collection so take a good look while its still alive :P

Image

A new one to me is a Hybrid Yucca Victor Emanuell 111  Its a Yucca Aloifolia x Recurvifolia hybrid. It looks a nice plant if it can take my perpetual wet condition

The unknown is this plant which could be a queretaroensis hybrid but not sure :?

Just thought i'd let you know how my Aloifolia is coping with all the rain as it grew a new head last summer after being nearly wastedlast Winter.

Image
Perfect :D You can still see the damaged leaves from last year. No damaging frosts so far so no damage despite all the rain.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

nice Yuccas Andy. Y. filifera is one of the best looking Yuccas in my opinion.......we need to hybrid filifera with some other hardier Yuccas to get the filifera look which is hardier........that would be great. 8)

that Y. queretaroensis is a great Yucca too......even less hardy than filifera in my opinion. I grew some queretaroensis from seed and some seedlings had very narrow leaves while others had a wider leaf like yours. I 'think' the leaf width will get narrower with age.

Very nice yucca collection you have. I always have problems with mine falling over when they get 6' tall. I guess we way too much rain for them here.

I seen where Greg Starr wrote an article on yucca queretaroensis on his nurserys web page.

Hi all... thanks for your replies :D I have been busy chasing after after the roof covers that I put over my Yuccas that have been blown away by the storms here  And as for the rain.....

Tim.... the Filifera would not stand up on its own so small was the pot that it was in. It was however a nice size not too big. The tropical Center in Holland has 3 metre Filifera for sale.
The Yucca I raved about at Pan global plants is I believe a Linearifolia X fillifera hybrid

The trunked Queretaroensis I have is growing well in the Yuccary but conditions are well getting tight in there... maybe too close together. It will be interesting to see how the trunkless one gets on.
Chadec..... because they are quite tender I will keep mine dry over Winter if that is possible given current conditions. Heres a recent pic of the Yuccary.... the main part

Here's Queretaroensis

Keep safe over there... I'll send you thermal underwear, you send me a Diver's suit
