Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Aaron, thanks for posting the review link.

Agree with you entirely that the crown has a tropical look.
So very delicate looking compared to the coarseness of some yuccas like filamentosa.

Glad those fires haven't gotten closer to you.
It must be tough to control a fire on the windswept plains areas.
Frightening that a fire can move so quickly.

Thank you Barb. Always nice when the fires are somewhere other than my yard. Of cource I don't want to see any fires anywhere, unless it's my camp fire. :D

Hi Aaron,

those are some nice Y. elatas. Y. elata is one of my favorites too. It has been rock hardy in my wet climate.

Mine is 12 years old from seed but has 3 feet of clear trunk now. Do we have different ecotypes or is it our excess moisture??

I think it the moisture and maybe the soil. I don't water mine after they start growing on their own. Also I noticed after I moved one to one of my sand and gravel hills it started growing much faster! As did all the yuccas I moved.

you must have had some brutal wind chill factors to burn an established elata. :o

Its one Yucca (one of many) that I don't have. I had my eyes on a five headed specimen with over four feet of trunk. Cost was high though.. over €550. That and a large untrimmed Rostrata. Decision day arrived and I thought go for it... only to find the Tropical Centre had removed all their Yuccas for sale  They are now doing Plant auctions which is not really any good for me.
Aaron that is serious burn. There is something to be said for living in a benign climate like mine.

You think they are hardy enough for my place? Always thought they are not, so never bought any elata seeds.

Aaron.... that's a lovely flower spike... mine has turned out a damp squid and I'm not sure that it will actually flower, which is a shame as a Linearifolia near it is about to flower
