Nice and mild here at 52oN. But for the lack of sun I have opted not to put the suntan lotion on but a rainmac instead. Its -7C lowest temp in early December.

I hate the difference that 5 miles makes.

But we'll most likely go lower in January :x

Wow, i havnt been that cold yet. Nothing below -17C (way west of me) and one station reported -23C (even further away from the lake than the airport). Im closer to the lake, which moderates the temps, so i could be a bit warmer then -17.

Its good to know that your huts stayed that warm. Is the thermometer in the palm frond or on the ground?

While I am seriously hoping for milder winters as the ONLY benefit of GW...I don't expect it to happen so quickly that we'll be keeping the flip-flops near the door.

Cold will come.

Dammit.

I agree.

GW is just wishful thinking, the more I want it the colder it gets.

I plant about a dozen cactus in AZ and that winter they get record cold- kills every cactus I planted.

It was -23c in Montreal 30km away. The probe thermometer is located near the foliage, the ground not suppose to freeze. I installed a heat cable with is own thermostat on the ground. But now, i cant verify cause there s to much snow. Before getting all that snow, the ground was frozen everywhere but not at the feet of the palms. I will post new video on youtube soon. Ill open up the mummywrap this week, the forecast say a high of 0-2c all the week. :D

Be careful what you wish for....we are supposedly in a cool/cold faze now and have low sunspot activity-depending on who you believe.

If last year was one of the warmest ever and we are entering a cold faze, what happens when we go back to the warm faze?

I think the USA was one of the warmest ever.......the globe may make a top 10? Not sure since Dec. data is not in yet. So far for 2012 UAH has global temp of +0.157 above average and RSS has +0.200 above average. GISS always has the highest global temps since Jim Hansen is running that program.....he scares me.....his predictions are way off and I think he 'cooks the books' to make up for the bad predictions.

Worst I've seen forecast is -4C which is a joke when temps are just a few degrees above zero during the day. After today no more rain is forecast for the foreseeable future just lots of sunshine 8)

I always find march the worst! It just seems to drag on without extreme lows, but no real warmth (usually).

Low to date is -7.6C for Toronto (18F); -19.5c for Kingston (-3.5F). My garden would have hit below -20C in that event though.

I agree DZ-but good things begin to happen in January :) we unfortunately need every day
of this month to add up the minutes to the day-length-I really love (late) February because at that point
no matter what the weather is doing-at least- here,by the end of February the sun is strong enough
to melt the snow off even if it is barely above freezing-in Jan/Dec that can take weeks.

The sun angle by late Feb is also high enough that the soil begins to warm if the temps do-
I really look forward to this because generally,if it is warm enough to pull the mulch back
and lift the protection-the (bigger Trachys),Sabals and Needles can be let loose again!

January/beginning of feb is the coldest time here. By the end of feb/middle march the temps are on the upswing - the averages go up by almsot 10C in march. Our daily average high goes from -9C to -3C, and the average low goes from -21C to -14C. IF the trend over the last few years sticks, Ill be uncovering bamboo in a month or so!

The odd thing is, when I was young, you didnt see these upswings until a month later, in april!

Still nothing below -17C, maybe -20C this week. So far a super warm zone 6, or cool zone 7 winter up here in T bay!

What I've seen here over the decades here is much warmer falls, but our springs seems to be windy and colder. Wildflowers would come out in April, now I don't see them until May/June. Of cource every year is different, time will only tell what this spring will be like. :?

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

And that is the problem. The last 10 000 years or so (after the ice age ended), the planet has been in its (relatively) stable state, climate wise than its been since the jurassic. Now it is anything but "Stable".

Same here, Aaron.

Almost like late winter goes to early summer without a spring...3 seasons
Like the 3 season tires people are driving on in a snowstorm.

Plus we seem to get at least one good dump of rain every month in summer, which is wonderful.
Never had that years ago.

Were having a sudden Stratospheric warming (SSW) event. What this means is we will get snow and freezing temperatures. Does anyone want our SSW... its going free
