Hail this afternoon in Bixby

Post by TerdalFarm » Fri Apr 22, 2011 4:26 pm

I'm in Tyler, Texas, for a meeting. High of 92 F here today and warmer tomorrow.

I turned on "the weather channel" in my hotel room and what do I hear first? "Hail in Bixby." W is at work so I can't call her. I go to a Tulsa TV channel for the news from home and come across this photo of the hail that fell in Bixby late this afternoon.

Holy crap that is some serious sized hail lumps ! We got hail here a few days ago but nothing remotely near that size. I hope your part of town got spared the worst of this.Crops would be flattened as well. Yikes!

Anything with leaves in my yard was partially shredded.
Just about everything else looks like it has the chicken pocks.

Luckily most plants are still leafless and it didn't last long

update

I returned home. I could not see any obvious hail damage. It must not have been quite as bad here as where that photo was taken (~5 miles/10 km) away.

There was damage, however: from goats. They got into the palm garden. Good news, palms are not their favorite plants. Bad news: they seemingly had to take a bite out of nearly each palm in the ground to see if any of them are tasty.
They ignored older fronds and "only" sampled opening new leaves.

Glad the hail wasn't severe, Erik.

Goats eating newest fronds :x
You'll get even in the Fall.

rain

Post by TerdalFarm » Mon Apr 25, 2011 1:12 pm

Oh, yes!
Seriously, I think I'm done with goats. The "ROI" is just not there.

While we're discussing my weather, Bixby is #16 on the list of the top 30 rainfall amounts over the weekend with
Bixby 5.26" (13.4 cm) and it is still coming down.
