O/T RAGBRAI comes to town....

Post by hardyjim » Thu Jul 25, 2013 9:16 pm

Goes from the Missouri to the Mississippi(across the state of Iowa)and the final sleep over is here
in Fairfield where I live.

I read today that 30,000 riders went through Des Moines.......BTW,this is no ordinary bike ride
as this large hoard knows how to have fun!

It has been compared to Marti Gras or Woodstock
on wheels.
Usually a crowd of nudist that go skinny dipping-
I read over a 100 this year-LOL

Fairfield Iowa is a town of 9500 or so but as the
day progresses tomorrow, that number will swell to
as much as 30,000 to 40,000,should be interesting!.

Pics(not mine)from years past.

I believe Lance rode the first 3 or 4 days the last 5 years..flying in from Paris one year.

I think I rode 30+ miles on my mountainbike today
just riding around everywhere looking at the peeps, campsites etc......

How often do you get to watch a small town go from 9500 to 30,000+ in less than 24 hrs!

Interesting to see what this town would be like with
a pop over 30,000......I think we would need some more houses!

I dont know if you can tell but those are baseball fields full of tents.

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... bfedfb.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_6924_zps7ebfedfb.jpg"/></a>

That is just one of the camp grounds...they must set
a record every year for most people traveling and camping together.

This was around noon and they were still feeding in,amazing to see places your so familiar with over populated.

Wow, Jim, that must've been a hoot!

Hopefully all those cyclists rode past your house and saw the palms and Sequoia.
And realize they'd like to live there.

Had never heard of it before, looks like great fun.
Call the Rolling Stones for the music next year.

Thank goodness it wasn't 110F.
