Blue Mountain Jamaica summit hike

Post by seedscanada » Mon Nov 30, 2015 4:12 pm

I hired a guide and a few drivers on Friday. You'll see some pictures here, of very tall tree ferns:

At the lower elevations, blue mountain coffee is growing all around the trails:

You'll see banana trees in the background.

At the peak, in the clouds of the rainforest:

Lovely! I've never been. So, is the summit at 6,000 feet?

Summit at 7400'. Beautiful. 30c and sunny in Kingston town at sea level, about 15c and cloudy at the summit. It came down in torrents on our hike back down through the rainforest. That rain ended once we came out of the clouds at about 4000 feet.
About an hour drive from Kingston to Hagley Gap (elevation 2300 feet). Then 45 minutes in a land Rover to th trailhead. And about two hours hike to the top. Just gorgeous. And a bit difficult to access. :)

Another pic of the tree ferns. Some were about twenty feet tall (not including fronds, which can echo be 4 feet in length) :
