Death, survival, experiments and new additions

Post by canadianplant » Wed Jun 04, 2014 12:59 pm

We had a rather "normal" winter, which is long cold and snowy. Five feet+ of snow, long time between freezing and above freezing temps. Minor tip dieback on the apple and plum. More survived then I thought. Some I thought would make it seem to have not. Cant imbed from flickr for some reason either...

Phyllostachys areosulcata alata..... Leaf kill on the top 2/3 but it looks like buds are swelling almost the whole way up the culms. If this upsizes well this year It will remain there of not it will either be donated to someone or moved.

My inch tall Magnolia tripitala. It survived its first year in a cup, and now has survived in the ground. It hasnt grown much though. Dead center....

The biggest heartbeak.... What appears to be a completely top killed/possibly dead Fargesia Rufa. It wouldve been in its 5th or 6th year. My first real "non hardy" trial..

The fig tree is alive for sure. There are 4 buds that popped over night and a shoot from the roots. Wooo!
