EVERYTHING'S finally out

Post by lucky1 » Tue Mar 26, 2013 9:05 am

A friend said "so, what have you been up to lately?"

I didn't dare tell her that bringing plants outside for the day and then back inside at night was taking up ALL my time and energy.

So they're left outside now.
-1C overnight, thinning the herd if they croak, but the roof should help.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/southslope/8591796025/" title="003 by edible_plum, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8523/8591 ... fdf6_c.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="003"></a>

Even the overwintered (potted up) geraniums are starting to flower.
Learned the trick is to give them really good light near an East window.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/southslope/8591794119/" title="002 by edible_plum, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8246/8591 ... 96f6_c.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="002"></a>

Cordyline Red Star will be planted today (fingers crossed).

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/southslope/8591468506/" title="006 by edible_plum, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8391/8591 ... 06e1_c.jpg" width="800" height="600" alt="006"></a>

All this "in and out" stuff was getting as boring as an adult film.

Thanks Jim.
As long as we have sunny days (now that they're finally here), should be OK.

Fingers crossed anyway. :D

Yeah, it takes soooooo long and so much effort.

Suppose it'd be easier if we had only 3 plants.

Maybe it won't get to 30F, Tim...people could use some NICE surprises in March.

Yes Andy, where are the photos!!!!!
full skirted Rostrata with a 1.7mt trunk
I'd have to win the lottery to afford one of those.

This is what I hope I will be receiving
Yucca Elata... not many trunked specimens left now in Europe
Image
Yucca Rostrata with a 1.7mt trunk

Image
Yucca treculeana with a 1.2mt trunk. This plant which was grown in Italy is developing a new head.

And from the same supplier a ButiaXJubaea from the famous nurseryman Dick Douglas in California 8)

The weather has been so wintery lately-last night was the first night in 48 days that the low was above
freezing.....looks like we may finally top 60F today for the first time all month-amazing when you consider
the average low is above freezing and the average high is around 60F !

They do look nice don't they 8) I guess my Wife might notice all that money gone from her bank account  I do think that Rostrata is a steal at £245. Most expensive by far was the Elata (rarity value) Cheapest was the treculeana which was £20 cheaper than the Rostrata
The ButiaXjubaea clocked in at £175 ...good value for a hybrid of that size...... and now the long wait :(
