Anyone ID this Fishtail?

Post by sashaeffer » Sun Apr 13, 2014 1:23 pm

Bought this big Fishtail for a whopping $12 last year from a nursery that sells plants that people return when they get too big for their house/apt. It was time to transplant from the small pot it came in into something more permanent and by a better window for light. Palm didn't come with any ID tag, so don't know what kind of Fishtail it is. It does have one small sucker out of the base. It has done well inside the house.

A Foxtail? Wodyetia bifurcata?
I got one inexpensively (ok, free) and it has grown well for me, indoors all winter and outdoors when it is above freezing.

Have one of those too, a nice seedling I got as a freebie from Phil at Jungle Music. Has done pretty well in our master bath where I'm sure it enjoys the extra humidity.

Good place for it! I killed mine (same source) setting it outside on east-facing porch. Got the shade it needed, but too hot and dry I suspect.
I see these in the wild and always under deep forest cover.

I'm sure mine will look cool...someday. Horribly slow grower but seems happy.
