Jungle Drum Palm anyone?

Post by sashaeffer » Thu Mar 07, 2013 10:07 am

Doesn't seem to be a lot of info on this palm. I bought one today for $8. I found this information but is inconclusive, so didn't know if any other member had one to share any care, growing charistics about it.

We would get those in at work four or five years ago. I recall they were in limited supply and we sold them for 40 to 50 dollars at the plant auction for a 3 gallon.

Cool looking palm.

A bit more here: http://toptropicals.com/cgi-bin/garden_ ... =1&first=1

Kinda looks like a Joey palm.
But those leaves get to be 18 feet long

Good luck with it Scott.

Thanks Barb. There isn't a lot about it on the net. No one can say for sure if it's a Jungle Drum OR a Panama Hat since I guess they are similar..yet different.

One website said the Jungle Drum was one of the top 15 plants to have as a house plant, yet another forum type site had a member in Ohio that said he couldn't keep it alive inside the home over the winter from the lack of humidity...

I hope it does well cause it looks cool, but when only $8 invested? I won't be out of much, and if I can learn something about it and share here with other members then it's all worth while.

You've got some nice new stuff, Scott, for a small investment.

Tim, hope this pic turns out...look at the man standing beneath the palm. http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9 ... tAOxiYA4GW

Scott had better hope his is NOT a Joey palm

oh, that one's just a baby, the leaves do get 18 feet long.

You'd get a tent in the yard, Scott, if you did that.

Barb,

Already sent a nursery in CA on Ebay an inquiry as they have plants for sale. Said would be safe to ship in April! :)

I HAVE a Jungle Drum (may stop and get another as it's cool and throws leaves fast)

Might order a Joey palm next month though. Easy to find on Ebay.

LOL, I need that for my Queen palm now! Joey Palms like humidity and shade so not sure how it would do inside for the winter IF it grew to any real size. Will be fun trying though.
