I have some Butia Capitata seeds that I got and I have been soaking them
I have cracked some and taken the 2-3 seeds from each. I have both soaking right now. I'll keep you updated on wether or not cracking them quickens them or not.

Seed rot

I'd imagine seed rot would be more prevalant when cracking the outer shell.

Thats what I hear from another guy.
I have a new method that I am going to try. Using this method, I have not had ANY seeds rot or any mold using this method. So I am going to try it on these cracked seeds. If it doesn't work, then I am not out too much since I can get more seeds.
I'll let you know of the method if it works.

This probably expalins why all of my butia capitat seeds have two and three seedlings coming out of one seed.

UPDATE!!!

Have kept both cracked seeds and non cracked seeds soaking in water with bottom heat.
THREE of the 20 or so cracked seeds have popped while soaking. WIll wait a day or so to pot up.
The un cracked seeds are showing a whiter "spot" where they will pop but of coarse none have popped yet.

Any updates. I have about 10 Butia Capitata seeds that have been soaking in water for 3 days on top of a refrigerator. I want to pot them up in a few days. I am going to crack a few seeds open today and see what happens.

How are yours doing?

UPDATE:
Looked at the germination pot yesterday and I now a VERY strong rooted popped seed from a cracked Butia seed (one of the three seeds, inside the seed). So far I have no mold at all in the germination pot. That was/is my main worry.
