Sprouting Coconut

Post by Mark » Mon Feb 21, 2011 9:11 am

Found a coconut starting to sprout.

I always checkout the coconuts when I'm at the store for this exact reason. I noticed right away one of the Eyes was popping.
I've been soaking it a couple days and keeping it warm. I'm going to pot it up soon and hope it will continue

If anyone has any advise for more success I welcome it. Not sure if i should place the popping eye in or out of potting mix and what I should use for a mix.

Thanks Mark

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.

I have been able to germinate a few coconuts but most of the time right after the sprout the soon start to smell bad and die. Anyone know a good way to prevent this from happening? The last sprout was very wobbly and the embryo actually fell out when the coconut was held upside down with clear thick liquid- thicker than regular coconut milk- emerging from its base.
