Going on my second year of the drum protection method. These are the three I have left, I lost one that was not located by these which I think do well because they are by my pond which creates a micro-climate. I've got one 65 watt floodlight near the crown, fronds are wrapped in frost cloth and on the ground I have either a 200 watt heater or a 250 watt heater all on a thermocube.
Spent the last week testing the three-cubes to make sure they went on an off, had one that was broke and today about 2 hours before this storm I put the final pipe insulation on each opening and strapped them shut.
My biggest palm is touching the top of the drums with the fronds pulled up so next year I may be going to four drums on that one!!!! Might need scaffling at that point!
