Last day for the tropicals Nov 18th

Some of the Castor closer to the house are undamaged...
they were yesterday anyway....

Even a little Thai giant that got no sun...

Interestingly it was not any colder last night than
it has already been BUT when you combine 40mph
winds and a 19F dewpoint you have incredible desiccation
potential and the moisture in the leaves is acted upon
as if it was 19F out...and time has sped up!

I will get a pic today- this ones from yesterday.

Looking good. I expect to see winter protection photos from you soon.

I am in my Manzanita, Oregon, garden (45 oN) now and all good. Lowest so far has been about 40 oF ! I don't plan on any winter protection, not even extra mulch. :D

I was not planning on covering anything this
year as I may be moving but I did cover some
stuff yesterday in 12F temps,we'll see if it was enough.

You planning on losing all of your palms?

My thinking is that it is tough to move a larger palm
and have it recover in time for winter,I would need
to dig them up and pot them for a year and hope they
make it....since I enjoy watching them grow up,this is
not a good plan to me,however I did cover some palms
and dug some up also so...just have to see what is around
in spring at this point.

I will be very interested to see how the Washy does...
it was ensconced n ice in 12F temps when it got covered...
the Thermocube will keep it above freezing from here
but I wonder if it will survive, the spear was brown but
it does have a large trunk!

If you move on, please stay in touch. Facebook works for me on some others here.

I'm moving to Florida in 2017 so may get active on the SE palms forum.

As for unprotected, I've been doing that for my zone 9 palm garden at 45 oN latitude, in Oregon. Several low 20s so far this month. All should make it.
