In years past a considerable amount of hours was needed watering the garden,
not this summer.
We have repeatedly been hit with early morning MCS's(Mesoscale convective systems),couple inches last time(5.3cm) .35"(.89cm) yesterday and 1.25"(approx 3.18cm)this morning, these are warm rains(dewpoint @ 70F / 21c)and are followed by warmer temps in the mid 80s(F)to the low 90s(F)-(29-34c)depending on cloud clear off in the afternoon-tropical like dewpoints in the
75-83F(24c-28c) range make it awfully soupy out-as soon as you move your clothes
are soaked-but the plants love it!I guess the cactus put up with it until they pop.

Musa Pisang Cylon, started at plug size....ramping up
leaf size with this next one.

I might buy and plant an Ensete today. Not long-term here, but with the El Nino going on, it might even over-winter here. Get two summers out of one.

Lovely pics Jim.... your garden could be somewhere from the deep south... just a shame about them pesky Winters.
Ensetes don't like cold wet Winters. Ensete Montbelliardi will take a few degrees of frost and is probably the hardiest of the Species
My own Ensete Ventricosum "Maurelli" has and is still having problems with the "strangles" The leaves don't unfold and end up rotting eventually leaving a leaf stem with no leaf. Probably started by a warm April and followed by a cold May, June , July.... basically a crap Summer  Don't expect you would ever get that in your hot Summers..... where's the envy emoticon
BTW Jim don't forget to post a pic on the EPS of your Maurelli at seasons close. 8)

Ok ...will do.

It is already way bigger than any previous one
that started out so small-all the rain is the key...9.56" this
July and it all fell in a 23 day period.
