Cocoon/white worm on fronds of Trachycarpus?

So I think I got the deal of the century to replace my 2 Trachys that didn't fare too well this past winter (tho I believe both are still "alive"). I got a 7 gallon Trachy (I think it's a Nainital, as the trunk is slanted and the fronds are thinner) for $30. The thing is about 5 ft. tall and seems very healthy, but I did notice the "v" on one of the fronds was closed and upon closer inspection, I saw a weblike thing that was sort of a cocoon and had a white larvae/worm in it. I removed it, but does anyone know if this is something invasive to the species, or just something hitching its reproduction on the best/closest thing?

And I guess while I'm here, I should ask this before I plant it. It's very root bound in the pot and from what I can determine, it's best to just plant it and not touch the roots at all. Is this correct? Or should I detangle the outer roots? Thanks again for all help!

All sorts of bugs and crawlies live in plant nurseries, keep an eye on it and squish any more you see.
The only thing my potted palms get is scale from the ants all over the patio.

I'd leave the roots intact.
Lots of water after planting to settle it in and get shoots heading into the soil (versus round and round in the rootball).
