Trithrinax brasiliensis

Post by TerdalFarm » Fri Jun 06, 2014 9:56 pm

I was at Cistus nursery this afternoon, just browsing.

They had a Sabal minor "OK collection" that made me both proud, and miffed. Why aren't these offered in Oklahoma! Most okies don't even know they have native palms. :x

My prize was a Trithrinax brasiliensis. I'll plant it on the steep south-facing bank in Manzanita, by the waggies and shaving-brush palm. Heck, if the letter could survive the coldest winter lows in decades, this thing should be easy!

I also got a Dioon edule cycad, to replace one of the Sagos that died from winter cold. :(

Yes, this hobby is a fetish!

Edit: picture links didn't work: I'll post pics below

Bonus pic. Portland is called the "rose city" for a reason:

Ha! The jokes on you this year! You could have stayed here in Oklahoma and experienced Ory-gun weather at home! It's rained almost every day lately. Can't complain about my water bill but it makes it hard to line-dry my clothes! Hope all is well and you have a good visit. Look like some neat specimens to add to your folks' collection. That last pic with the roses is beautiful. I need to do a yard update here with pics. Despite the awful winter everything lived but some things look rough.

Sure, make us look up phytophile

Seems you had to leave OK to find OK palms...
