I had a lot of fun doing this the other night, wish you
could see it in person...definitely worth trying if your not doing this already...maybe a little late in the season ?(-;

I don't know how I got this upstairs in "one" piece but it may be the last year it fits!
I started out barely lifting it out without
it dipping(the small pot was sunk in the ground)'
had to wrap a towel and a bungee cord around it.
Went to look for a dolly-no dolly.
had to put one hand under the pot and one on the bungee
cord and tip it back-I put styrofoam in between the arms to keep them banging together-when I got
it upstairs and went to remove the bungee cord
it was broke and fell off!-LUCKY ME AND the CACTUS!(-: anyway, its up here for now.

Probably 7'(second tallest arm is 6') or close to it in its little pot!

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 6.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 299d86.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_7450_zps30299d86.jpg"/></a>

The way it grows every year,it would only be inches from the ceiling next winter,if it is going
to stay tall,I may need to find another winter home(-:

Some other stuff,almost all in.

E.Princeps has decided to flush...guess I will be carting
it up and down to the porch to harden off the precious leafage(-:

Chilly couple days coming up may be the end of the tropical season this week....back to palms and cactus...not a bad deal either!

What a neat idea Jim.
Beautiful shots, especially the princeps.
Mine will have to wait until next year 'coz they're tied like a turkey.

Sounds like quite a trip up the stairs. :?
Next year wrap an old long winter coat around it, do up the buttons and presto, no death by thorns and no bungee cord needed.
But at 8 feet next year, you WILL need a dolly.

I'm planning on doing this as my next summer project. Found out my local irrigation supplier is a distributor of LED landscape lighting. Initial impressions is the stuff is pricey, but you only do it once, and they're going to be way brighter than those cheap solar lights you find at chain stores.

I ordered my lights from Kiven lighting on alibaba.com they are 3w LED lights and super bright. About $11 each. If I remember right that included shipping.

Thanks guys/gals

They really look surreal lit up at night...just think,a whole other half of the day to enjoy your garden!

The cactus really looked cool-definitely doing something there...if it makes it down in one piece,
what a beast this thing is and it needs repotting bad so it will probably put on 10' next year in addition to
the 6' it grew this year!

I do love having the plants inside!

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... efeadf.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_7468_zps4eefeadf.jpg"/></a>

Encephalartos Princeps flush coming along nicely...it will need some time outside in the sun soon though.
Looks like 4 new leaves coming-at the price of these plants,it is worth it to lug it up every night!
