Queen palms take a beating and still stand
Too cool not to share.
Took this during a bad summer storm. It was pretty scary. Too bad my camera ran out of memory before the worst of it.
Enjoy

Wow Mark that was nasty! Those pots must have a little bit of weight to them to not budge during that. Now I really wish you luck getting them back in the house.
By the way you said it got worse? Wow how high were you wind gusts? Glad to here they made it ok though. It's amazing after category five storms they can still stand after. (Palms are awesome trees)

Quite the storm, Mark.
Get many of those in a summer?
Be glad it was a Queen and not a Musa...you'd have green confetti hanging on strings.

Yeah we get storms like that every year. Hate the wind. Have to pull palms out the pool. At least my big ones in the massive 75 gal stock tanks never go over. Just too much weight to them as seen in the video.
Usually when I'm home I prepare and move palms to a safe place. (west against the fence) But one cannot always be home when they hit.

Nope.
It hasn't hurt any of them yet. A few times they were in there all day or all night. The Solar cover is usually on so they're somewhat floating. Not at the bottom.
I'd water heavily to rinse the soil.
Maybe it at least killed some of those f'in spider mites!

Our pool just has patio chairs and a (bent) umbrella in it...every 10 days or so

Wxman,
I just don't have the nerve or a place that is good for them. I know I'd lose them and in cant imagine protecting a 17 foot queen.
Maybe one day a Trachy in the ground next to the house.
Yeah. I'm only about 15 mins to WI
