knn, I found this reference to yellowing sago fronds as a deficiency: As with most plants, there are some problems to look out for. A condition called frizzle top is probably the most common problem. This is a manganese deficiency causing the new leaves or upper leaves to turn yellow. This will star...

There are SIX pups on my old, neglected Sago! Yippppeeeee! I didn't dare remove and plant any of the pups when I repotted today. Can they be left on? If so, what does the plant look like later on...is it a mess? My camera is pretty crappy so will wait until they DO something before I get a better pi...

Can this Palm be fixed?
Last summer after I repotted it, a nasty windstorm nearly broke it off and left the palm bent, with exposed roots. Rather than just throwing more soil over the roots, I gently tried to get it back to vertical. Didn't work. If I try to move this palm even one inch, I hear a cracking noise, probably r...

Thanks for posting the pic...so that's what Needles look like. They're gorgeous, and I'll keep my eyes open for one (even though I'm not off to Ontario anytime soon). Yippeeeeee, we're in 6a!!!!! thank you, thank you for that map. I could never get it to zoom far enough to figure it out (I'm 8km eas...

30...31 years! Once I stopped putting it in a hot, dry house for winter (and into the cold, barely-heated building, at a south window, no water for 3 months), then it really started putting on a show. Which was positive proof for me that all plants need a rest. Tree-like growth...that's my TRUE pass...

That growth looks like it's all from one year!? Rampant comes to mind for adverb. Looks like you're really enjoying your GH, saw the posts in another spot. Good for you. If I had one I'd LIVE in it! I was drooling looking at this site...oh well, when I win the lottery! http://www.bcgreenhouses.com/ ...

Fabulous sale prices! That's the best thing...bringing home a neglected, misshapen plant from a corner of a nursery, and giving it a good home. And look how it's responded. I'm convinced that stressing plants (intentionally) really gets them going again after renewed TLC (in which case mine oughta r...

OK Desert Palms, looked at that Ontario site...that's probably why I didn't see a Needle during my nursery jaunt yesterday! Bet your 3 Needles are super, do you have a pic somewhere on this site? Noticed they had a Takil for only $9.99, cheap! Do you have yours outside all winter (zone 6b - 7...

My succulents...
Apart from the Jade Tree and Madagascar Palm, I have no idea what any of these are. They'll soon be back out on the patio. Seem to have done OK in that cold building over the winter. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/176/398139815_dcdad0958d.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/127/398134667_47845c05b0.j...

oh oh, read this from Dave's Garden on the Lamia: All parts of the cardboard palm are poisonous to animals and humans. The toxicity causes liver and kidney failure, eventual paralysis. Dehydration sets in very quickly. There is no antidote. There are fatality reports filed with Poison Control on dog...

Gosh I walked past all the bonsai plants today without even looking! I might have missed Zamia (Cardboard Palm). Zone doesn't matter 'coz it'll definitely be indoors, except summering on the patio with its other Cycad kin. Sneaking plants home! ha ha It's an honest swap for shoes, dresses, what have...

Thanks, Barrie, but I flipped when I saw the size of your palms at such a young age. It's obviously your experience that shows. Mine is 30 years old, I repotted it two years ago. Bought it as a little 4-inch plant in Vancouver. I've never had the courage to have it winter outdoors (like the brave fo...

New to Palms North...this is truly home!
Hi folks. Yup, think I belong here. Love palms and cycads and am determined to push my zone (a big stretch).
Will try to post pic of my T.fortunei (wearing a blanket).
I don't think that worked...[/img]
