My grapefruit tree has been planted outside for 4 years now, as well as my pomegranate tree. I do protect them with a h...

Sunburn for sure. My musas and ensettes get it, lose a few leaves until more grow when outside.
Even my travellers palm gets it when first brought out each year.

I trench and bury our largest fig tree. When timed right, and carefully unburied, I have had figs in June and a second crop in September. That does not happen to the figs I leave exposed (only Sept.) I've had a double crop for the past four years.

In What part of Ontario do you reside?
Maybe it was protected for too long? Mine have been uncovered for nearly two months.
What protection measures did you have in place? Maybe some pictures of how you protected?

Don't know where that is at but at rice road ghs they overwintered in their greenhouses a couple of customers' 20-odd foot tall Washingtonia robustas,. They were too tall and had to be diagonally kept in the gh. You see the tops: <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/seedscanada/7162402712/&quo...

Branches with buds are fine. You are right. But for now I would do nothing about it, you would not want to cut off something that is possibly going to grow.
