Montreal Palms

Thanks guys . Most palms away from the buiding have some form of heat except needles and sabal minor. All palms near foundation have no heat at all, so we do loose some palm fronds but they regenerate quickly
thanks

roof heating cables

Yes Barb. 10 years ago they used to sell the roof heating cables also for use in raised garden beds and if the wire intersects at any point they either melt or in my case send the arbotex into flames. I remember that year all the palms and bananas on that side of my house turned black from the fire ...

Mummy wrap method

I had thermocubes fail in the past. I also had those type of heating cables catch on fire so I am nervous about using this type of heat cable. I am using a commercial type of heating and so far so good. We will soon see. That last dumping of snow here has delayed us for about 2 weeks.

Mummy Wrap

Yeah the mummy wrap so far appears to be a good method -it requires more energy and costs more to have heat cables plugged in, but the convenience and storage aspect may balance the additional cost

Needle Palm

My Needle palms get mulch at the base and some get a styrofoam bos and others get bubble wrap tarps or 4 foot flower pots. My biggest is 6+ feet and the best method so far is the box. For you you could get away with wrapping it tight mulch base, wrap with frost cloth and then use the bubble wrap ins...

I agree with the soil being too damp and I am not sure about planting chamaerops in the shade -this works for trachycarpus but the one at my dad's place has been in the part shade for 4 years and is still only about 6-7 feet tall. It is however suckering quite a bit now. The other chamaerops that I ...
