That's super cool! You've got competition yucca moth! What kind of yucca is that pictured? Any chance these ants could have created some kind of hybrid seed? I believe yuccas are self-sterile, so the ants must have visited more than one plant, me thinks. How about a nice brevifolia/elata cross :D ?!...

yucca whipplei not a yucca at all?.......
It seems DNA analysis of yucca whipplei has shown it to be somewhat less of a yucca and more of a Hesperoyucca (a small genus of three species of flowering plants in the family Agavaceae, closely related to, and recently split from, Yucca). Perhaps other yucca enthusiasts will find this interesting ...

Hi Aaron, It's kinda weird that rostrata would struggle in your neck of the woods, especially given your successes with brevifolia. It's hard to tell from photos, but the leaves on this specimen look more rigid (pun intended) than what I have seen on rostrata. Could this plant be the less hardy y. r...

yucca fertilizer
Hi Guys, Does anyone have any recommendations for a general yucca fertilizer ? I hear people say in some forums that "yuccas don't get fertilizer in their natural habitat...so why in a cultivated one?" Well, I say, what does get fertilizer in its natural habitat? Yet we still fertilize mos...

Hi Guys,
What do I do with the flower stalk/stem on my yucca filimentosa after it has stopped flowering-just leave it, I assume? Thanks!

I'm planning a short trip to St. George, Utah in June to purchase some nice yuccas. I have a small joshua tree allready that does extremely well here. It's even sprouting a couple of additional "arms" (for lack of a better word). I haven't even protected the joshua tree. I'll take some pi...

Welcome Kirk, If I was in Denver, I'd look at some of the hardy trunking yuccas, rostrata and elata, for example (which should be hardy without protection)-and even Joshua Tree (y. brevifolia). These plants look very palm like in structure and appearance, but are less fragile. The Denver Botanical G...

Re: looking for largest possible yucca glauca and/or elata
Hi All, Does anybody out there have any yucca glauca and/or elata specimens they'd be willing to sell me? The bigger, the better. And preferably, you'd be in Canada for ease of shipping purposes. Red Rock Canyon Yuccas
Hi All, Was in Las Vegas last week with my wife. Had a chance to visit Red Rock Canyon just west of the city, in the Mojave Desert. If you don't know, it's a conservation area run by the Bureau of Land Management. It is also a paradise and a must for the yucca enthusiast! Please have a look at my ph...
