Seed Identification

Now that it's turning to winter time I'm kicking around planting my seeds that I got on my honeymoon in Maui this past april. I remember picking this thing up when I was in lahaina for some dinner. It came off of a tree that looks somewhat palmy, but didn't have windmill type fronds or coconut palms...

Joining the club - up go the boxes

Here's some photos of my windmill palm boxes for this winter. No real change from last year other than putting 2 x 4 base around the bottom so my doors aren't forming the base. We'll see how it goes. I'll post more photos as things progress, I plan on keeping them open as long as I can to mitigate m...

Red Canna rhizomes for sale

I have a ton of Red Canna Rhizomes that I am thinking I should sell off a good batch of them. I am looking to package them in a priority mail large box that will hold around 20 decent sized rhizomes. I'm asking $35 shipped. Payment can be made through paypal. I'm also planning on having my wife list...

Thanks Barb, I just noticed that the not so old leaves were the ones yellowing also. I still think some of the cooler low temps we've had are the culprit along with my not fertilizing.

I ended up building wooden boxes over mine and shrink wrapping them. Had C-9 lights inside on a thermocube and mine came out perfect in the spring. We did have an easy winter last year though. I'm located in michigan. I have a thread somewhere with photos on here showing everything I did.

I want to keep as much of the p-stem as possible. Lows tonight is showing 41 degrees. I want to cut off all but the cigar leaf when I dig them up and want to make sure that leaf isn't damaged too much. Or can I expect that over winter to wither anyways?

When should I dig?

As I'm sure some here know I have a pretty big patch of dwarf braz and red dwarfs that I plan on digging up and dry root storing for the winter. I would like to avoid frost and any damage it can bring so I'm curious what opinions are out there for when to dig 'em and get them in for storage. I'm hop...

Here's my third update on the yard for the summer. I'm thinking I may have a few more weeks left before temps start heading down and I'll be forced to dig the bananas up for storage for the winter. It stinks b/c they're just now starting to put out some huge leaves!

The problem is where I am located and the types of bananas I have. The red dwarf and dwarf brazilian will not go through a michigan winter no matter how well I protect them. I don't think a cavendish will make it through a michigan winter with the protection I would give it. But considering you really think cavendish makes me think othe...

Do you take the Croton in every winter or is that a plant that overwinters without protection?

Also, do you have any photos of your palms at night with the lights on? I'm trying to find a solar powered spot that will give good light for at least 4 or 5 hours.
