New Greenhouse

I'm in the process of building a new greenhouse that's 8'x10'. I went with 8' because that is the maximum width I have to work with and I went with 10' because 12' wide x 100' long poly is what I have to work with... that gives me a little on each side to seam over. I've put down a 2x6 base and a 3/...

More pictures -- cooler day today!

Thought I would take some pictures today. It was relatively cool around 80 degrees with a dewpoint in the lower 50s -- real pleasant after a summer of mostly upper 80s and 90s with lots of humidity. This is what you see as you walk up to my house from the sidewalk. I love this angle. http://i7.photo...

Do you take the Croton in every winter or is that a plant that overwinters without protection? Also, do you have any photos of your palms at night with the lights on? I'm trying to find a solar powered spot that will give good light for at least 4 or 5 hours. Croton is dug up in the fall and I over...

Re: Your front yard

Yes, the yard looks awesome!!!! Did you grow your Trachycarpus for a while indoors before planting it outside, or did it start from a younger plant outside? I live in zone 5B/6A depending on the map you look at. I planted the big one as a 3 gallon in 2008. The middle one was planted as a 15 gallon ...

It's 10-10-10.

I don't know exactly how much water. I just stand there with the garden hose until the soil is soggy.

The new spears of windmill palms always push up yellowish. This is because they haven't begun photosynthesizing yet. Once the leaf opens, you will notice it turn green fast. Don't worry! :)

I was outside tonight watering the heck out of everything. There's two things I do a lot of in summer -- water and fertilize. I probably water every other day in June, July and August. Installing a Magnolia grandiflora '24 below'

UPS came with my Magnolia grandiflora '24 below' today from Rare Find Nursery. I figured I would take extra care and plant this one right. When I received the 'Edith Bogue', I just dug a hole and stuck it in. Might have been a contributor to its demise, who knows? So here is what I bought. http://ww...
