I used spray foam to assemble and crack fill my palm shelter. My wife stood in the doorway until I had stripped off the clothes that had foam on them. Either they stayed outside until the foam hardened or I stayed outside.

Kansas; Fresh manure will burn your plants if you add too much. If your grandfather has a manure pile that is at least 4 months old help yourself and add it as if it is compost. Most people prefer well rotted manure because it has little smell. If you don't mind the smell, fresher manure is stronger...

Today it got up to 3*C and rained gently most of the day. As a result, parking lots, side streets and sidewalks are glare ice as the ground temperature is well below freezing. The main streets are wet with nice sized puddles as the storm drains are mostly covered with packed snow and ice. While out ...

I would put a quilt over top of the structure and cover it with clear plastic to keep the quilt from getting wet once you get more snow. Once it gets back up to about -10*C outside you can remove the quilt and plastic and keep them dry until it gets cold again. Last year I used 2 x 30 ft cables insi...

I used to make sure that the tires on my vehicles were changed every 5 years. I had a truck that didn't travel 10,000 km per year and a convertible that seldom made 5,000 km per year. They would weather check before the tread wore out. Now our vehicle travels over 20,000 km/yr and the tread wears do...

I am finally getting some time
I had a long summer; too busy in the day to read or post and too exhausted in the evening. I gave up trying to maintain a lawn free yard. The city and some of my neighbors make no effort to control their weeds and I could no longer keep up. I had my 9 yr old grandson for 2 months and his little brot...

I got 4 to germinate. They all died before the 3 leaf stage. I still haven't figured out for sure what caused their deaths. The banana pulp idea was a bust. I ended up with some really foul smelling banana wine(?). No I didn't taste it. I started some Musa Violacea in January and had about 15 germin...

Barb; We had 60 Km gusts since I put it up. They were from the west where it is the most protected and didn't even dislodge the roof vent which I had left up. A strong North West wind, once the leaves have fallen from the plum trees, will be a good test. Wes; If I get decent germination on th...

I have put the greenhouse to work. After taping a silver tarp to the south facing roof and wall to keep most of the sun and heat out, I set up about 30 seed trays to germinate ornamental grasses. The seed trays contain about 1400 cells of Buffalo Grass, Prairie Dropseed, Blue Gramma as well as small...
